Portrait Painting Intermediate - Level 2

Course Outline

This course is designed for students looking to take their work to the next level and focus on painting techniques. Students are expected to have attended at least one previous 5 week portrait course with Get Arty and/or are confident in basic portrait drawing methods and have some painting experience of portraits already (in any medium)

Week 1 and 2 

Sketching and painting in Acrylic - students will gain confidence working on two separate paintings over the two weeks (one speedy paint sketch followed by a more focussed study). Acrylic under painting techniques will be shown and paint technique demos will be provided to the group. One-one tutoring from Ottie is available throughout the course

Week 3-5

Oil painting (1 long study or two short studies) Choosing a photo (bring from home or select from studio library). Students will be taught the fundamentals of mixing, mediums and application. The first week will focus on the initial sketch and underpainting stage. Our last 2 sessions we will be working together on adjustments and building up layers to complete our paintings. 

There will be a chance to discuss varnishing and hanging and  participants will be ale to leave paintings to dry before taking home final pieces
